2012 began with a beloved tradition: house party with friends in Orlando, where all the men dance to "Moskau, Moskau" by Dschinghis Khan at midnight. We've only done it for the last three years, but it is a fun way for my close girlfriends to get together and let our hair down. Not all of us make it each year, but it's always fun to mingle with college and high school friends. The consensus is that Melbourne girls know how to go big.
This year, I dressed down in a halter, leopard leggings, and motorcycle boots. My best friend and I arrived a bit after 10. I brought along a handle of Zombie rum drinks. That was my first mistake.
The second mistake was drinking half the handle in under two hours.
I was very irresponsible, but I did not throw up, drive, or hook up with anyone. In fact, one of the guys was so nice, he let me crash in his bed while he took the floor. Even though there was more than enough room for him. Thank goodness I know such wonderful people.
After waking up at 7:30 that morning, I drove an hour home, and crashed to nurse the zombie hangover. I also surveyed my phone for potentially damaging drunk texts/dials. Luckily, I only sent one scandalous text, which went to a lover; he wasn't offended. The rest of the day was spent cleaning up and reading my textbooks until dinnertime with family.
My brother cooked a lovely meal of ham, black-eyed peas, and collard greens. The taste of humility imparted by the black-eyed peas was no match for the hangover. We talked, and passed around my nephew, who is becoming quite the mischevious little charmer. And he's getting his first teeth!
For the first day of 2012, it was a rather tame one. One in which I hope heralds the coming of even-keeled times in my life. I look forward to continuing my education tomorrow, taking more steps into the realm of adulthood, and maybe, just maybe, finding the courage to begin imagining my own family.
Someday.

I disappeared from everywhere but the Facebook recently. To be quite frank with you all, I've felt myself slipping back into the dark passenger of depression. It's due to forces outside my control, which makes a control-freak like myself feel even worse. But, I've battled through to the other side, and while it's still cloudy, I can see the sun coming back. (Cheese-fest, I know.) So, I took the time I needed to get myself and my surroundings back on track. Things are looking up.
Moving on to the outfit, I went over to a friend's to eat Chinese, drink beer, play dominoes, and chill out. Since we were in our semi-cold snap, I busted out the boots. I'm using any excuse to wear my Fall wardrobe!

The Casey Anthony verdict is all over the place, and I am way too emotional to discuss it. I'm glad the circus is over, but my heart goes out to the ones who loved Caylee. Nothing brings justice in the murder of a child. The only justice would have her alive and well, about to turn six. Poor thing.
So much for not talking about it. Anyways, in the happy frivolous world of mine, I'll be taking a nice vacation this weekend. Three days in the Keys with a few friends, Cuban music, tequila and Kino's. Perfection. Expect beachy OOTDs and some big ass photo posts when I return.
While I'm away, I'll have some fluff posts scheduled.
For the USA readers, I hope you had a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend. It's one of the holidays that means much more to me as an adult then it did as a kid. Twenty years ago it was a day off school and my best friend's birthday. Now, I think of the men and women who serve this country, who fight for this country, and who've died for our country. My political protests mean nothing without their sacrifices, and I never let a day go by without thanking them for the America I live in.
{Best friend and her boy.}
On Saturday, there was a surprise party for my best friend at the Outback attended by her family and a few of our friends. She almost didn't go out to dinner with her boyfriend because they had a late lunch, and she wasn't hungry. Oh, her face was priceless. After dinner, the friends and siblings went bar hopping.

The next day was her birthday BBQ. We played Liar's Dice with horrible pirate accents, drank lots of beer, and tried not to cry at the sight of fifteen year olds setting up a beer pong table. (They filled the cups up with pool water, but knew what the game was. Depressing.)

As much as I tend to bitch, I really do live in a wonderful town, with so many opportunities that I wouldn't get elsewhere. Being able to raise orchids and herbs, as well as wear shorts and lightweight fabrics, year round is quite extraordinary. Time to kick back, and enjoy this life.
Yesterday was my dad's birthday. The family celebrated with riverside dining and a HUGE chocolate cake. Happy birthday, Daddy! (And I love El Caminoes. Finding one around town just makes my day.) Squidlips is a great restaurant with AMAZING seafood and drinks. Since we still obey the Catholic edict of not eating meat on Friday, the best solution was to devour local seafood. Their menu is imaginative. If you are ever in the Melbourne area, you should really check it out. And have a Green Parrot cocktail for me!

And yes, I had a few large Green Parrots by the time I posed with my sister-in-law.

With the higher temps and plenty of errands to run, low fuss is my mantra. It doesn't get much easier than a tank dress, ballet flats and breezy vest. Cute, comfy, and kept pace with me. Also, I've been on a cupcake kick lately, whipping up new recipes and icing. Chocolate-raspberry with raspberry jam buttercream is my current favorite. Yum.

My boys did it! Packers brought the title back to Titletown! I am so very excited and beyond happy. I'm going to be celebrating the win (again) tonight, so I'll be out of commission until Tuesday.
All the gifts have been wrapped, lovingly placed under the tree, and family dinners abound. Too many dinners, it would seem. Thank goodness my health insurance covers my gym membership, I'll definitely need it after this holiday stretch!
I doodled out my Christmas clothing attack, but things like fluffy, shedding dogs are going to throw a monkey wrench into that. Oh well, as long as I get some snaps and can make an OOTD, I'll be happy.
I hope that you and yours, that celebrate Christmas, are also planning your holiday festives to enjoy. Snuggle up. Grab some nog or hot chocolate. Keep an eye on the children and critters. And bring on the mimosas!
A mix of the songs I listen to while wrapping. I was tempted to make a list of rappers, but my sense of humor lost on that count. You're welcome.
Other than shaking my tokhes (תּחת) and teaching myself Yiddish, I managed to squeeze in the usual groceries, laundry, housework AND an outfit of the day! (Jewess I am not, cursed to always be a shiska (שיקסע), sadly). Anyways, I made the OOTD using scores from Ideeli and a DIY I've had laying around since forever ago.
(Weird angle my legs are at. Hn.)

Title: lyrics from Shakira (feat. Dizzee Rascal) "Loca"
Loca loca loca... You like that it ain't easy... Loca loca loca... I am friggin' addicted to that song. And I figure that the chorus is pretty much perfect when it comes to people who like me, for whatever reason. Thank you to my support group, especially those who know what my crazy entails. Love you. *heart*
(Yes, I know the song goes And I'm crazy but you like it but I thought my tweek works out for our relationship.)
