NABLOPOMO: Are you superstitious about beginnings? Anything you do to start out on the right foot?

I'm not very superstitious, unless it comes to the ritual watching the Packers play. By which, I mean I hide in the bathroom, and shout for updates from my dad, because "if I watch them, they'll lose" mindset stemming from watching Favre blow a big game on my birthday. Other than that, I pride myself on being a (somewhat) logical, rational being.

However, I do have a moderate case of OCD. Do compulsions count as being superstitious?

BABY, YOU GOT A FUTURE IN MEDICINE

Aw yeah, my nephew has got some STRONG jaws on him. He just loves nursing! Loves it so much he tried to sleep-nurse on me. The look of a confused newborn gumming away at my bra: priceless. When he has babies, I can't wait to throw that story down.

And I had a moment of TV deja vu...

SIP OF YOUR LIPS

Whew! It has been a whirlwind of a month, but I finished my first class as a nursing student. It feels so amazing to be actively getting my life back on track and challenging myself to do what I thought was impossible. Fighting through depression and fear has been a long journey, and meeting it head-on is such a rush. I have the best support team a gal could ask for.

Finals is "casual day" at Keiser, so I got to wear something other than my scrubs, which, let's be honest, are pretty dang comfortable. No way was I going to miss out on a chance to show off my knock-knee glamor, AS YOU CAN SEE. :D

CONFESSIONS OF A DRAMA QUEEN

I am not a girly girl.

I stole Dad's plunger from his work truck and insisted it was my scepter to rule over Doll Land before I started imitating Godzilla.

Never was.

Happy (Belated) Father's Day!

To the man who was there for all my "firsts" growing up while starting his own business. Who came to violin, piano and choir concerts. Who came to every soccer game, even when I was a Big Girl on varsity. Who took me on my first powered paramotored flight. Who works his hands to the bone to give our family the amazing life we lead.

The man who taught me how to be tough and throw a punch if I have to. The man who greeted one date with intimidating presence. The man who watches made-for-TV sci-fi and Steven Seagal movies without irony. The man who drives me absolutely crazy and makes me bust a gut laughing.

The man who no one else could ever replace.

Love you, Daddy.

(Now can we please go see The A-Team? I'll buy the ice cream!)

I Wasn't Kidding...

... when I said I pack too much into the end of May. Let's start with last Friday, shall we?

MAY 21
Mom's birthday. Go to work and corral the family into a big dinner party/cook-out at our house. After, bust ass getting the dinner things ready and laid out for guests. Mom's friends come over as well. Success.

That night, Molly's farewell party. Did we ever get tipsy. I may or may not link to the video where I reenact how she will be mauled by bears. Success.

MAY 22
After the recovery from the previous night's shenanigans, there was another social gathering. Some of the party people opted out in favor of nursing their hangovers, but the rest of us had a nice evening. Success.

MAY 23
Spent the day car shopping with dad. Found the car I fell in LOVE with. 2010 Jeep Compass. 5 speed, silver, powerful. Also found out that Mazda doesn't make stick shift vehicles. Success.

MAY 24
After an extremely stressful day at work, decompressed with friends over dinner and drinks until late. Success.

MAY 25
Day off spent on the phone with banks over car loans and credit ratings. Spent time on-line surfing for best breakdown of my choice. Success.

MAY 26
Was approved thru bank for loan. Went to Orlando with mom to finalize car deal. Airport Jeep tried to screw me over, saying OTD was 16,000 and wouldn't be able to find that car for less. Second dealer found the vehicle I wanted in another color for way less. I agreed and put my down payment. SUCCESS.

MAY 27
Dealer called with bad news. He quoted price on the WRONG VEHICLE. One I wanted was a thousand more. FAILURE. Argued price down to $200 above the original agreement. Success. Found out that the car they would be getting was from Airport Jeep and was the exact car the prick dealer wouldn't agree to go under on. EPIC SUCCESS.

MAY 28
Finalized on all car deals - bank, insurance, tag, title, etc. Drove to Airport Jeep to shake hand of manager thanking him for getting the car to Greenway Jeep, and told him I wouldn't recommend their services to anyone. Escorted from dealership by security. Brought car home. Success.

That night, birthday party for Seb! Nerdy shenanigans.

MAY 29
BFF's birthday. Party plans unsure, but it should be guaranteed to cause some form of a party hangover.

Whew! So there you have it. My crazy week. Pictures still to come. Hooray!

Happy Mother's Day!

(Mom on the left)

Happy Mother's Day, ma! Even if I don't listen to your advice, fall asleep in church, come home drunk as a skunk most nights, and cause you no end of worry, I know you love me!

And I'm sorry you got stuck with me.

Love you!

And would it kill you to smile?
