OH, CLAUDIA...

I've been missing for a while because I haven't quite felt like blogging. The inspiration and desire was waning. These things happen, and sometimes, instead of forcing it, you just need to unplug and reboot. And so, I'm back and ready to kick out the jams.

(And bad jokes. Aw yuss.)

Since Thanksgiving is the last kind-of lookbook time I have, I'm going to share some snaps from my Thanksgiving with SIL's family. We spend the week in Georgia, at a beautiful house in the mountains of north Georgia, owned by SIL's friend's grandfather. It was low-key, and no-internet/cell phone signal (for me at least). (And there was TV, so I got to watch my future ex-husband Aaron Rodgers and the Pack kick the Lions ass.) Nice time to relax, laugh, sit by the fire, and drink exciting new cocktails.

(Mmmmmmm, gin and juice. New fave.)

First night on the mountain! FYI, grilling during high winds and frost temperatures is not recommended. Guess who learned that the hard way.

(We were at a rest stop, soothing the unhappy baby, and SIL was getting ready to try breast feeding. Just before anyone gets all up in my grill about safety and car seats and whatnot.)

That's all, kids! After this chance to recharge, I'm planning out some new posts, and the same silly, ridiculous nonsense you've come to expect from and over-caffeinated spaz attack.

Love you!

DECONSTRUCTION: KOHL'S

102111145038

Above is a very cute ruffled Tee from Apt. 9 at Kohl's. On 70% sale. I love the color, cute a gorgeous deep indigo that looks fabulous against my skin tone. The fabric is a nice, light-weight jersey, and flows beautifully along the body. The strategic placement of the ruffles hides my belly pooch, and makes me feel a bit bustier. *wink*

You bet your tush I snapped this baby up.

Here was a Vera Wang tank/tunic on sale for 60% off. In this I'm wearing the medium, which was too tight on the breasts. I love the pattern, and the loose flow from the breasts on down. The length is also a plus, so I can wear this more with jeggings. I snagged it in a large after the dressing room test run.

Since the outing, I've worn the Apt. 9 top so often, it is ridiculous. I went to another Kohl's to snag a few more in other colors. All on sale. With a coupon. I've found that when washing, it is best to run them on the casual setting in the washer, and only have them in the dryer for about 15 minutes, then hang them up to finish.

I've only worn the Vera a few times, more because I haven't worn jeggings.

Overall, I'm happy with these purchases, and can forsee an excellent level of cost to wear.

RAINY DAZE

The summer/fall transition is usually marked with afternoon thunderstorms down here. Weekend before last, we had a wicked storm that left the town looking like a tropical storm had hit and strewn debris all over. I thought I was going to be flooded in at work, and was anxiously checking the warehouse for any leaks. Luckily, all was well.

When I took these pictures, it was a surprise storm. Where the sun is out while the rain is falling. I love those. But by the time I dug out my tripod, the storm was effectively over.

Lame.

"ROYALE WITH CHEESE."

ootdpimp 010

Pulp Fiction is practically a rite of passage these days. I can't think of anyone under 35 who hasn't seen it. Well, the itty-bitties, of course, but we wait until 10 to show Tarantino-esque films in my family. (And most of us grew up normal. Kind of.) While visiting a friend, she gave me one of her son's old shirts with Jules and Vincent emblazoned on the front. Way better than a Royale with cheese.

So, Lee, here's to you!

SUMMER SHEER

917111

As summer wraps up, I find myself drawn to sheer, light fabrics. This new-found passion would have been nice for the entirety of summer, but I'm not exactly known for my willingness to embrace change or peek-a-boo fabric. But Free People had a gorgeous sheer dress on sale that I had to snap up.

While I've mostly worn it with solid unders and bikinis, I have a bombshell one-piece heading my way to make this something other than "beach cover up". But until then, I layered a vintage slip underneath to make this somewhat more appropriate for public consumption.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN

I'm making an appointment with my hair stylist. Time to make this rat's nest look good again!

Just a little cut.

ADVENTURES IN SHOPPING

Last Sunday was the final day for Florida's "No Sales Tax" break for back-to-school. The tax break mostly applies to school supplies like backpacks and lunch boxes, but clothing across the board is also included. You see where this is going, yeah? Since I don't want to be one to let a tax break pass without celebration, I took Sister-In-Law and Baby H shopping at Kohls.

A Girl's Day was so what the doctor ordered. The past week was a stressful one, for both of us, and since having the baby, she needed new clothes. And since my birthing hips keep attracting delicious foods, I needed some new pants. I know, it was, like, destiny or something.

H was a trooper. His only demands were that he have his binky and be held at all times. As long as those two demands were met, he was happy as a clam, and a MUCH better shopper than his Daddy and Gramps. I even managed to snap a quick phone picture:

{That's my Junebug!}

The lesson: Tax breaks are awesome, and H is doomed to go shopping with the Rihab women for the rest of his life. Sorry kiddo, but that's the rule.

PITTER PATTERN

8161107

One thing I've wanted to do for a while on here is play with mixing patterns. For my first foray, I decided to keep it pretty simple and girly. No sense going balls to the walls just yet. While editing these pictures, I noticed I made a ton of stupid faces. Aw yeah, keeping it classy.

RED SCARE

I returned from the Keys yesterday, and snapped the above portrait. Yes, I got far too much sun, so please forgive me for slacking off the next few days. I'll be laying in a tub of aloe vera and sipping a painkiller smoothie.

Talk to you soon!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: IT TAKES A VILLAGE

ootdwinning 010

I finalized all of the paperwork and received my books and uniform for nursing classes. Tuesday was the Orientation, and boy was it a whirlwind! The school was in the middle of remodeling, the air thick with paint fumes, workers rushing through the halls while new students were being herded on the tour, everyone trying to be the first one to get books before the bursar's got backed up.

Of course, you came to hear me regale you with my school concerns. Lately, I've found myself playing with prints and colors. I love this top, Ebay find, and the flats are a staple. I think that leopard print should be used as a neutral. As the dear Mrs. Parker says, "A bit of bad taste is like a nice dash of paprika."
