STUDENT APPRECIATION

914114

I finally wore real clothes today, instead of scrubs. It was "Student Appreciation Day" so they let us dress down and eat BBQ. (Actually, it turned out to be hot dogs, which was disappointing.) Since I wasn't coming home only to slip into my nightie, I thought I should document the occasion. If I did real OOTDs everyday, you'd get to see my wide range of lounging nighties. And it would get boring pretty quick talking about them, although it could boost my traffic.

I look cranky above, despite my classic comfort threads, because I'm surfing the red tide. I love that euphemism. If you say that where I live (where surfing is a perk), you'd be asked why anyone would surf during the red tide. Red tide is also an algae bloom we get around here. I like the fact that our blooms can be deadly, as I think it is quite fitting to my mood during my red tide. That is a nerdy way to describe my period. I apologize.

As for the outfit, I was feeling laid back, and think I portrayed a decent air of chillaxness. Since the A/C is always so cold, I grabbed a decent weight jacket from Ecote to top off the basic tank and jeans. Adding some personality into the outfit with the bold necklace. I love ethnic or costume-ish jewelry.

Also, I got my hair styled! Back to the long shag with bangs. I love how it looks on me. Maybe this time, I'll keep my hair as is!

WORK IT, GUUUUUUURL

I'm over-due for a Cut & Color. For any alarmists, don't worry, I still remember my Year Challenge. I'm just going to have some layers added to the top, since they've grown in. I love having red hair, mostly because I think it's only fair people have a warning, and it's kick ass.

The last At-Home Round was Clairol's Natural Instincts in "Navajo Bronze". The dye is a deep amethyst color while being applied, but has a fresh strawberry-ish hue. At least on my dark blonde hair. It's really pretty, and the vibrancy lasts for weeks.

But, my hair has faded to a golden auburn now, all hints of red are gone. So, to get to my desired goal of Red Sonja, I'm going for this:

It'd probably be in my best interest to go to the salon, but what fun is that?

Mix It Up

So...

I think I'm gonna dye my hair.

Auburn.

...

Um.

At least I'm not cutting it!

Hair Raising Tales

While growing up, I wished my hair was curly and red. I felt cursed with strait blonde tresses. I wanted to stand out, not be another tanned, cookie-cutter blonde girl living in Florida!

My mom FINALLY let me dye my hair a deep brunette mid-way through my first semester as a senior. I loved it. Since then, I've been brunette, rich auburn, deep mahogany, platinum blonde, and roasted red. I'm back to blonde, because I'm used to people, especially men, thinking they can pull a fast one on me as a blonde, and I like the element of surprise. I'm guilty of playing up to people's preconceived notions of the ditsy helpless blonde, and then sweep their feet out from under them.

What can I say? I'm a bitch.

Here's my current look: short and strait blonde.

(EVIL IGUANA.)

Last month, my buddy Bobby asked if I wanted to go to Disco Night at our local Playhouse. King Center for the Performing Arts. It was at the local college, where I spent many a high school dances and awkward nerdfests (aka Odyssey of the Mind) and we decided to dress up.

Bobby, the jackass, let me down. I set my hair in crimpers overnight, then used hairspray and a comb to tease my stubborn hair into an afro. It was awesome looking. Bright blue eyeshadow (think Sandy in Grease) and a hippy-dippy top completed my look.
I don't have full pics of my ensemble, but I do have a pic of the deflated afro.

You can just see Bobby at the right edge of the frame. He's a handsome devil.

And what a great night.

Nowadays, I'm totally into my natural hair gifts. Blonde? Fine, I'll keep it. Thick? Only a pain when I get my highlights. Or riding a convertible with the top down. Legnth? Okay, I still chop my hair off every few months, but I've made a pledge that I won't cut it for a year.
We'll see how well I stick to that promise.

Great News!

We just found out, from a number of sites and sources, that the ponytail is going to be hot hot HOT for fall!

THANK GOD.

No more fussy hair accessories, like that damned double headband! We always managed to smack the elastic in our eyes everytime we tried to follow that look. Plus, that look is SO unforgiving for poufy hair, thick hair, frizzy hair, any hair but stick strait, thin hair. UGH.

Sloppy pony. Haughty pony. Naughty pony. Messy pony. Big big big trend!
