MELBOURNE NIGHTS: PART 1
I live in a lovely place. It's big in engineering, space, defense and tourism, but it's still a more laid back, mini-city atmosphere. Most places close by ten at night, public transportation is like betting on horses, the drink of choice is the cheapest beer, and if there is a jukebox, someone will play country. I can also count on walking to my nearest or favorite bar without worrying about being mugged, staff recognize regulars and treat them warmly, strangers will help someone with a disabled car on the roadside. (I've been on the recieving end of much goodwill when my Cruiser was on it's last legs.)
In short, it's a nice town. Not the closest-knit or nicest, nor it is the seediest or sketchy. I was blessed to be raised in an upper-middle class town with strong religious values, but enough freedom to dream big and believe I could do anything.
Tonight, I'm going to celebrate my town. I'll hit up the Art Walk, stroll the beach, and hop around my favorite haunts. Pictures to be posted in Part Two.
