SLUTWALK

Have you heard of Slutwalk? I reblogged the Toronto Slutwalk on my Tumblr a while back. My favorite sign was "Society teaches 'Don't GET Raped' rather than 'Don't Rape'." I find that to be quite true from my experiences growing up and my university course on how to be a college student.

(Yes, it was a real class, and yes, it was required. We spent the most time discussing how women need to make sure they don't become victimized, and what clothing is appropriate in various college settings. And when I went to the people and organizations they had told me to go to when you find yourself a victim of rape, not a single person was the least bit helpful.)

While trying to find someone to help me figure out what to do at uni, I ran into people whose first question was always, "Well, what were you wearing?" My mom, when I finally broke down and told her what had happened, first responded with, "I've told you time and again, you need to stop dressing like that. You never listen." I was in jeans and a baggy concert T-shirt when it happened... So, I'm a big believer in what these organizations are doing, the message they are hoping to get across with these marches.

Look for a slutwalk near you. Floridians, you'll probably see my slutty little face. Hope to see you in coochie cutters. I'll be in go-go boots and a mini.

Feel free to call me Slut Cakes.
