Fall Trends 2009

Harley Mama:

We love love love the toughness of the biker trend. Leather pants! Leather jackets! Leather blazers! Leather kid gloves! Nothing could be hotter than the tough-chick chic this season. If you aren't quite prepared to go balls to the wall with this look, a lovely incorporation of this trend could be a studded purse, (p)leather earrings, ripped pantyhose, biker boots, any number of new accessories. Have fun with it!

Fun Fur:

Thank you Thakoon! The fun, frivolous take on traditional fur for this Fall show makes us want to play dress-up and strike imposing figures like the models. For those of us with fashion budgets, check out these lovely chic options.

Punk'd - Not Ashton'd:

We love the idea that punk attitude doesn't have to die with adulthood. How depressing would that be, an aging stereotyped punk? Ugh. Now, we can continue to Damn the Man and schlep for the Man in our everyday lives. Oh, capitalism, how we love you. Be it with some boots, hair dye, a (new) piercing, or the standby ripped pants and flannel/plaid, keep it classy for work.

Shake Your Boot(y)s:

With Fall, comes such cute new boots! Boots boots boots! Ankle, calf, knee, or thigh, it's all going on this fall! Of course, with the cooler weather, you can layer it with dress and tights, pants, shorts/skirt and tights, tall socks, just about anything you could come up with. We love some of the styles we've seen, and are reconsidering the wisdom of fiscal responsibility. So dull!

Noh Theatrics:

We've got the feeling that with tough-chick fashion, and the resurgence of punk fashion, that makeup trends for this season will also reach for darker depths. Expect to see plenty of brooding, demimonde eyes with layers of lashes and eyeliner, blush to sharpen and accentuate the cheekbones, deep amethyst or crimson lips. On top of that, hairstyles will be more angular or androgynous. Platinum blonde or ink black dye. Theatrics are what it's about.

Cardi Tea Party:

Cardigans are perfect lightweight fare. They can layer, shape, pull a look together. Belt an open cardi at the waist for professional polish.

Sparkle:

Sequins, when properly done, are going to be a huge hit for the winter celebrations. Nothing to gaudy and overdone, like the late-80s and early-90s, yikes! Subtle is the key: be it on shoes, skirts or as an accent. Who wouldn't love a little sparkle in their step?

I'm a Lumberjack and I'm Alright:

Grunge is back. Flannel and plaid tops are all over the place. The key to the trend lies in the application, as with any other trend. Fitted tops, girly accents, tamer color palette, all of these soften the impact. If you want to go all out, by all means! We love to see people walk the street looking fierce and chic. We wouldn't mess with them!
